4 Ways to Get More out of Church

Happy Tuesday! I hope your week is off to a great start. It’s crunch time for me this week at school with projects and reports, but I wanted to stop by and chat for a bit. I thought it might be fun to share some tips I have to get a little more out of your Sunday church service. I’m no expert (ha!) but I have been doing these things lately and it has definitely helped me stay more engaged throughout the service. I can’t be the only one who suffers from daydreaming/zoning out/totally getting wrapped up in my own thoughts during church, right? (This is the part where you rush in with ‘no totally not just you!’) Keep reading if you want some helpful hints!

1 | Take Pretty Notes

I’ve been taking cute notes during the sermon and it has helped me really stay focused on the message. Plus I like hanging my note sheet on the fridge to see during the week. I was inspired by this (amazingly talented) hand-letterer on Instagram, and since her notes are SO PRETTY I had to share it with you.

2 | Do a Mental Dump

I know this isn’t always easy to do, but if I’m at church feeling stressed, or my mind starts racing, I simply (simply might be a stretch) say a quick prayer, dump my worries, and move on. If a lengthy to-do list is what’s on your mind, jotting down your tasks might be helpful, too.

3 | Find a Bible you Like

I was gifted this bible for Christmas last year and I really like it. It is an English Standard Version one, and I find it pretty easy to read. You can buy the exact one here. It’s a journaling bible, so it has extra wide outer margins that provide lots of space for notes. I have been using colored pencils to make notes and underline verses, but I have seen people use fine-tipped pens and even watercolor paints (which are so pretty!).

4 | Get Involved

Jake and I have been going to the same church for around a year, and just recently attended a house church (aka bible study/small group). We really liked it, and are excited about going back. Getting involved helps make church not just another Sunday activity, but something that you think about all throughout the week.

I hope the rest of your week is fabulous. Make sure to check back Friday to see what I’m loving this week!
