Hello Hello and Happy Wednesday! Is anyone else feeling the mushy-gushy holiday season feelings yet?
I am just about bursting at the seams with excitement for this holiday season (that officially begins next week!!!). It’s the most magical time and I feel so much extra joy during this time of year.
With all the hustle and bustle it’s easy to forget about serving others, and spreading our joy.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
We were called to be lights in this world, and I want to give you some simple ideas for how to do this. (In the form of RAKs aka random acts of kindness!)
4 Holiday Season RAKs
1 | Pay it forward.
Have you ever had someone pay for your meal in a drive-thru? People have done this for me a few times, and I tear up when it happens. It makes me so happy! It’s such a sweet way to spread joy and one of my favorite RAKs.
2 | Give small “just because” gifts.
Doesn’t it just feel great to receive a little something for no reason at all? Well, it can be even more fun to give a “just because” gift! It doesn’t have to be expensive or a big-deal kinda thing, but just a small token of love, friendship, appreciation, etc. can make someone else’s day. Some ideas include: coffee, inexpensive jewelry, favorite candy, a kind note, a pretty pen, etc. No gift is too small or silly to brighten a day!
3 | Pray for others.
(And let them know it.) This is something we should be doing all year round! Pray for your friends, family, classmates, co-workers, people you don’t know, everyone! I think a simple “I’m thinking about you and you’re in my prayers” can be such an easy way to spread some joy. It’s a heart-warming feeling to know people care about you, and it is truly a gift to let others know you care.
4 | Share a smile.
This has to be the EASIEST (FREE!) RAK ever, but also a very high-impact one. I love when strangers smile at me. (Okay that sounds creepy but hear me out…) Don’t you just love when the people around you seem happy? There’s a lot of junk in the world, but when we choose to embrace the good and just SMILE for goodness sake, I think we can make a difference in the happiness of others. The holidays are not the happiest time for everyone, but a warm smile can surely help.
I obviously didn’t invent any of these RAKs, but I hope this little list I created helps you in some way!
I’m going to try my best to practice what I preach and incorporate these 5 RAKs into my life during this holiday season (and beyond!). I would love to hear stories about RAKs you love to do. Comment below and we can chat!
My roommate and I are putting up Christmas decorations Friday, and I CAN NOT WAIT. In the meantime, I’m going to keep blasting Christmas music in my car until January. (Yes, I’m one of those people.)
